You Don't Love Me

This song recently surfaced from the Dead's archives (check out Grateful Dead Hour #388) on a tape from an unknown location that has been dated around February, 1966. The tape includes instrumental versions of Good Morning Little Schoolgirl->You Don't Love Me->Good Morning Little Schoolgirl. This is believed to be the first instance on tape of the Dead sliding from one song to another (and then back).

The song was written and recorded by Willie Cobbs in Memphis in 1961 with the following personnel:

This version was issued by the following labels: Mojo 2168, HOB 231, VJ 411, Boot Heel 182, Ruler 900. I'm at present looking for a copy of this recording.

Most people are familiar with this song because of its inclusion on the Allman Brothers Live At The Fillmore East album (recorded March 12 and 13, 1971). The early date of the appearance of this song with the Grateful Dead seems to preclude the Allman Brothers version as the source for the Dead.
